Il passatempo in inglese va tradotto con PASTIME. Invece il verbo passare in inglese, intendere come trascorrere il tempo e non come passatempo va inteso come TO SPEND/PASSARE più ING e non va mai usato TO PASS/PASSARE in quanto è sbagliato. Quando si vuole passare una vacanza futura allora il verbo giusto è TO GO/ANDARE.

Passare per fare un salto da, andare da può essere tradotto con TO CALL(IN) ON. TO POP IN, TO COME TO SEE/FARE UN SALTO DA QUALCUNO E CI SI FERMA. PASSARE PER VENIRE A PRENDERE QUALCUNO/QUALCOSA/TO COME AND GET. Passiamo da voi quando veniamo dalle vostre parti/we will come and see you when we are in the area.

Passiamo a prenderti alle nove/we will come and get you at nine. Il passare per sopportare va tradotto, usato con TO GO THROUGH. Se un fatto o problema è scomparso si traduce con TO GET OVER oppure con TO GO. Ha passato dei momenti bruttii, poverina/she has been through a lot poor thing. Ha superato quell’episodio/has he got over that episode? Ti è passato il mal di testa/has your headache gone? Per chidere di passare qualcuno al telefono si traduce con PUT THROUGH/PASSARE.

Mi può passare Gianni/can you put me through to Gianni? Un attimo che te la passo/hang on I will just get her/just see if she is in/just put her on.
